Before or After

Which came first?

    Before or After

    1. Put events in order

Six events, from the earliest at the top to the latest at the bottom.

      Earliest at the top.

    2. Move any card

Drag a card by its number, use the arrows, or tap two cards to swap them.

Every card moves — even the one that starts with a date.

    3. Check your order

Press Check order when the list looks right. You get 5 tries.

You'll see how many events are in the right position, but not which ones.

    4. Stuck? Reveal a date

You can reveal 2 dates to help put the events in order.

Your result shows how many hints you used.

How to play Before or After

Put six events in order, earliest to latest. One date is given. Five tries.

    • Six events, in the order they happened — earliest at the top.
    • One date is already on the board. That card still moves.
    • Use the arrows on a card, or tap two cards to swap them.
    • Five tries. A wrong order tells you how many cards are in the right position, but not which ones.
    • Two hints are available, and each one reveals another date. Your result shows how many you used.

    Where to start

Start from the date you were given and work outwards: everything you are sure came first goes above it, everything later below, and the events you cannot place go in the middle where they cost the least. Because a wrong guess tells you how many cards were right rather than which, the second try is worth more if the first one moves several cards at once: a single swap that changes the count by two has told you about both of them.
